Kaitie's Freedom Testimony
Â
When Katie began The Set Free Woman, she describes herself as codependent, living from a borrowed identity, and constantly monitoring the emotional temperature of her marriage. If her husband wasn’t okay, she wasn’t okay—and she felt responsible for fixing discomfort, preventing conflict, and making sure everything around him was just right. She believed healing needed to be 50/50, but she also wanted control over what her husband’s growth should look like and found herself trying to manage, fix, and even force growth in their marriage. Her own needs were difficult to express, and if they inconvenienced someone else, she often minimized them or tried to make them easier for others to accept.
Six months later, Katie describes something very different: freedom. She has learned to depend on God instead of carrying responsibilities that were never hers, allowing her husband to experience discomfort without rushing in to rescue him and taking accountability for herself without requiring anything in return. As Katie changed, the dynamics of her marriage changed too—she stopped constantly pushing for growth, created space for her husband to pursue his own, and says they are now able to simply be present together in a way they couldn’t before. After praying for friendship in her marriage for nearly ten years, Katie says there have been more moments in the last three months when she genuinely wants to be around her husband. She describes freedom now as laying down the burdens she was never meant to carry, surrendering them to God, and finally having the space to show up authentically as herself.
